VRI HEAD HONCHO SELECTED TO SPEAK AT DVEXPO WORKSHOPS

DV EXPO featured our President and Chief Gearhead, Brad Hagen, as a featured speaker in two sessions at the LA industry event. Both sessions featured the RED camera, and focused on production tips and workflow in the field and in post. In the RED Orientation session, Brad invited Plaster City Post to add to the fun and demonstrate various workflow options through post-production. Jay Holben, Technical Editor for DV Magazine and DV.com was the moderator in a second session at the Expo. The session entitled “Digital Cinematography Supersession,” included back-to-back comparisons of various high-end cameras by industry veterans Dalsa, Panasonic, Panavision and RED. The RED camera was a big crowd pleaser – ‘nuff said.

RED CAMERA USED ON ANAHEIM DUCKS COMMERICAL

VRi hit the ice with both of our RED cameras for a PSA promoting teen hockey with the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. With Brad Hagen and Jeff Killian as operators, the production included exterior and interior action footage. Anaheim Ice was a challenging shooting location, but the cameras performed well and the images were awesome. Overall, the shoot gave us a chance to work with the newly enabled variable frame rate and mixed shutter speeds in a real production environment. Look for the spot on the air and our web site.

TRUE NATURE FEATURE LENSED WITH RED CAMERA

RED Camera Ripley finishes principal photography on the suspense thriller feature, True Nature. Shot in Ohio over 4 weeks, the RED cameras preformed flawlessly in a variety of conditions. Director of Photography Marco Fargnoli says, ”I used the RED One in a full cinematography configuration and was able to light it like film, yet still had all of the advantages of digital imaging – extreme portability, no film costs, and no lab fees or turnaround.” The resulting images have been met with acclaim and are featured in the RED demo, “The FIRST 100” - featuring selections from the first 100 days with the first 100 cameras. Check back soon for our interview with Marco on our Shootwithred.com blog.

But wait! There's more!
Next on the bill, a presentation on the newly released Final Cut Pro 6 from Apple reps. Yeah I know, but they begged so we caved (the framed first edition of MacWorld magazine on Brad's wall and our recent purchase of six copies of Final Cut may have been the clincher). Hear the Apple folks discuss how to best optimize your workflow with Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Server to deliver everything you need to produce your next potential Award winning show.
And as an added bonus, the folks from Keycode will also be on hand to showcase the latest toys from AJA including the new Kona and Xena capture cards and to answer your questions on any of their other products.
A triple bill with more stars then the Aroura Borealis, without the drive to Hollywood. You won't find 3 bigger stars of the industry in the same place outside major trade shows. From acquisition, to input, to edit, you'll see products to create an entire new workflow. This is a must not miss event!
Food and drink will be provided as well as some swell door-prizes. Please RSVP by email or phone and the door fee will only be $5.00 (normally $15 for MCAI non-members but we will pick up the difference). See you Wednesday!
